The Guardian. Mercy appeal.

Part of a long series of daily social media posts seeking clemency for Australians, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

The work responded to daily news updates from Indonesia on the status of their appeal – speaking directly to President Widodo who held the power to grant clemency.

While the Indonesian Government proceeded with the executions, the petition received over 250,000 signatures - a strong base for continued work to abolish the death penalty internationally.

The Guardian. Capital Punishment
Justice Project

We needed to change the course of a conversation that often lacks nuance.

In this campaign we highlighted how the dehumanisation of a death row prisoner – by the time they are executed they are left barely human at all.
Launched in Brussels (and running in Asia and the US) the argument was championed by Victorian human rights lawyer – and Victorian Australian of the Year Julian McMahon – and Sara Kowal, director at Monash Law, who jointly founded the organisation.
